If you live or work in Bellevue and are interested in participating in the city's second annual Bellevue Essentials leadership course, you are invited to an open house on Wednesday, May 14, to learn more about the classes.
The open house is 6-7 p.m. at City Hall, 450 110th Ave NE, room 1E-108. During the presentation, city staff and 2013 Bellevue Essentials alumni will share program highlights and answer questions about the classes. Those interested in applying are encouraged to attend. Applications will be available at the event and by request after that. The deadline for applications is July 15.
Bellevue Essentials classes begin on Sept. 18, with eight weekly Thursday evening sessions and one Saturday tour day, scheduled for September 27. The course provides a general overview of Bellevue city government, offering an on-ramp for emerging leaders who may want to step into broader public service. No prior leadership experience is necessary to participate.
Program participants learn from key city staff, neighborhood and community leaders, elected officials and other decision makers. Session topics include demographics, neighborhoods, parks and community services, planning, budget, transportation, arts, environmental stewardship, utilities and economic development. Classes are interesting and dynamic, utilizing speakers, panels, interactive exercises, site visits and networking opportunities.
Bellevue Essentials is open to anyone who lives or works in Bellevue, but will give preference to residents. Applicants will be accepted based on the following criteria: identification as emerging leaders, geographic diversity and a short essay on personal goals of participation in program. Class size will be limited to 30 participants to ensure a quality experience.
Bellevue Essentials tuition is $95, with financial assistance available. Tuition includes all classes, learning materials and a light meal at each session.
