As part of an effort to make the Eastgate area along Interstate 90 more attractive to businesses and residents, the city seeks input on proposed land use code changes for the area at an open house Wednesday, June 8, 5-7:30 p.m., in the concourse at City Hall, 450 110th Ave. NE.
In 2010 the City Council launched the Eastgate/I-90 Land Use and Transportation project to develop a 20-year vision for the corridor, which is an employment center and home to Bellevue College. Over a two-year period that included considerable outreach, a citizen advisory group drafted a plan to enhance the area's economic vitality, neighborhood retail services and transportation infrastructure.
The major focus of the project is the commercial, industrial and office areas fronting I-90 between I-405 and the city limits. A project summary outlines the vision for the corridor.
Policy and land use changes were included in the Comprehensive Plan, in the Volume 2 Subarea Plan amendments. Transportation network improvements have been included in the Transit Master Plan, the Transportation Facilities Plan and the city Capital Investment Program plan. Design and construction of the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trail also benefits the Eastgate area.
Amending Bellevue's land use code, scheduled for adoption this year, is the last step to implementation. The proposed amendments will establish three new zoning districts that will allow mixed-use development.
In addition to Wednesday's open house, the Planning Commission will host a public hearing on the proposed land use code amendments on June 22, 6:30 p.m., at Bellevue College, Room N201 (computer lab), access via the south entrance on Coal Creek Road.
