Living Voices to present historical performance art June 13
In honor of Juneteenth, the City of Bellevue invites the community to experience the founding of the United States and the concept of "all men are created equal" from the unique perspective of a free Black colonist of the time.
This free performance from Living Voices will combine a dynamic solo performance with archival film to illuminate lived experiences during the time of our country’s founding when some celebrated new freedoms while enslavement persisted. Juneteenth marks the last notice of emancipation given to enslaved Black Americans in the U.S. after the Civil War.
Juneteenth Performance of Living Voices’ “Our Revolution”
Date: Thursday, June 13

Where: City Hall council chamber, 450 110th Ave NE

Juneteenth is a historic milestone and the oldest recognized celebration observing the freedom of Black Americans from enslavement in the United States on June 19, 1865. Designated a federal holiday in 2021, Juneteenth raises awareness of the history of slavery in the U.S. and how the legacies and impacts of enslavement continue today.
Recognition of Juneteenth will also include a proclamation read at the June 11 City Council meeting. The Juneteenth flag will fly at City Hall June 19-30.
