More than 2,000 women from across Puget Sound have participated so far in free “Women Empowered” self-defense workshops here since the program was launched in 2022. The popular program, which continues to draw participants from near and far, is the lead story in the Winter-Spring edition of It's Your City, which is going to Bellevue mailboxes this week.
Also sharing the front page are Greener Living classes that empower you to repair, reduce, reuse and recycle ... and a 3D printer at the Bellevue Library can help.
Other highlights include:
- “Emerging Radiance” art installation: An art installation that tells the history of Bellevue’s Japanese American farmers is Bellevue’s newest public art. “Emerging Radiance” is now on display at the Bellevue Library.
- Curb pricing study: With on-street parking in Bellevue’s urban core becoming scarce, the Transportation Department has launched a curb pricing study to determine whether it’s time to start charging for parking in some areas.
- Great Neighborhoods planning: The Great Neighborhoods planning program, underway since September for the Crossroads and Newport neighborhood areas, ramps up in March with place-based workshops and neighborhood walks.
For this issue’s Council Corner column, Councilmember Dave Hamilton explores the many creative solutions we’re developing and implementing to add affordable housing to Bellevue. No one neighborhood will absorb all the new housing, but all will absorb some.
The next issue of It’s Your City will come out in June.
