Program will pilot activations of downtown space
With sunny weather finally arriving, the City of Bellevue is launching a food truck program this summer at City Hall Plaza, with a rotation of 11 different trucks offering a variety of cuisines Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
The city is partnering with the Washington State Food Truck Association, the group that represents food trucks across Puget Sound. Committed to creating a more vibrant downtown, the city hopes this pilot will be the first of many activations coming to City Hall Plaza. Visitors to the space this summer might experience a variety of small interactive installations as the city explores what works in the space – such as selfie stations, photo opportunities, lawn games and possibly pop-up performances.
The city will partner with organizations who share the vision of creating an inviting, accessible and dynamic Grand Connection corridor. As increased transit options such as the recently launched Sound Transit 2 Line drive new development downtown, community organizations will have more opportunities to activate public spaces along the Grand Connection.
The food truck dining program, to run June 11- Aug. 29, is one of several public space activations scheduled as part of the city’s Grand Connection program, which will include a series of cohesive, connected and memorable public spaces throughout downtown. Other signature projects along the corridor include expansion of Meydenbauer Bay Park, enhanced programming and events such as the Bellevue Downtown Association Beats and Bites music series and the high-profile Grand Connection Crossing over I-405.
“The Grand Connection isn’t just about the new projects we’re going to build together,” said Jesse Canedo, chief economic development officer. Parts of it are here right now. We invite you to come downtown and help us create the Grand Connection together.”
