A unique area resident — a 25-foot-long dragon fashioned from cast-off materials — is hanging out at City Hall.
The art installation, part of a “Dragons Are Your Friends” exhibition, was hoisted into place this month at the west entrance of City Hall, suspended from the ceiling.
Artist Meng Huang created the bright, colorful piece from thrown-away materials he collected from restaurants, businesses and apartments in Seattle’s Chinatown International District. Among the items are plastic buckets, construction cones, a colander, eating utensils, downspouts, feathers, milk cartons and branches.
Celebrating the lunar new year that began on Feb. 16, the installation will stay in place through Sept. 28. The exhibition is produced by the Bellevue Arts Program in partnership with the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience, which generously loaned the artwork. The Seattle museum is holding an exhibition about Bruce Lee called "A Dragon Lives Here."
