The City of Bellevue has just released a draft 2026-2030 Sustainable Bellevue Plan for public comment. Feedback will be accepted through Monday, Sept. 8, and can be submitted online.
The new plan will be an update of the current 2021-25 Sustainable Bellevue Plan, adopted by the City Council in 2020. Since the council launched the update in October 2024, staff have already engaged with more than 1,000 residents and organizations. That input helped the city prioritize its work on sustainability and climate programs and policies in the draft plan.
The aim is to ensure city efforts remain on pace to meet Bellevue’s overarching sustainability goals – including carbon neutrality by 2050. The draft plan includes goals, strategies and actions across five focus areas: Climate Change; Energy and Buildings; Mobility and Land Use; Materials and Waste; and Natural Systems. The city strives to lead by example by achieving carbon-neutral city operations by 2040.
In addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the Sustainable Bellevue Plan includes goals and strategies related to Bellevue’s tree canopy, access to mobility options and other sustainability issues. The draft 2026-2030 plan also focuses on climate resilience – preparation and response for climate change impacts to support a livable future for everyone in Bellevue.
The plan update is expected to go to the council for adoption in late 2025.
