After more than 18 months of meetings, focus groups and walking tours, the city will hold an open house to wrap up a set of recommendations on the Downtown Livability Initiative. It's an effort to analyze development regulations with an eye toward enhancing the downtown experience.
The open house and community discussion will run from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at City Hall, Room 1E-108. A formal presentation will be held at 5 p.m., followed by facilitated focus groups. Topics covered at the open house will include design guidelines, building height and density, public amenities, open space, walkability and parking.
Tuesday's event offers an excellent opportunity to view displays and provide feedback on work by the Downtown Livability Citizens Advisory Committee. The CAC is seeking community input and will review comments and suggestions prior to its June 18 meeting. It will then make recommendations to the Planning Commission and to the City Council, which could adopt a package of regulatory changes by the end of the year.
The public process for the Downtown Livability Initiative began in late 2012. The focus of the effort has been to identify possible changes to the land use code and design regulations that guide development downtown.
