Councilmembers turned their attention to the arts on Tuesday, allocating funds to 11 organizations that support the arts, as well as funds for 25 special projects.
All told, the council approved $110,000 for 2014, including $83,000 for organizations and $27,000 for projects. Funding amounts range from $500 to $18,000.
Among the special projects to receive funding is the Seattle International Film Festival ($2,500), which will show 50 screenings of films in Bellevue, with appearances from filmmakers. The films will be shown at Lincoln Square Cinemas, and an estimated 8,000 people are expected to attend.
Lists of the funded organizations and special projects, along with descriptions, are available in the council materials. Additional information about the organizations (Eastside Arts Partnership) and the Special Projects program also is available in the Arts Program.
Internal effort to maintain, boost performance
Staff members from several departments briefed councilmembers on an internal effort to maintain and improve the City of Bellevue as a high-performance organization.
Established in 2007, the "One City" program includes staff teams that work closely with the City Manager and department directors, or Leadership Team, to maintain and enhance a culture of customer service, continuous improvement and performance management.
Program themes include collaboration, innovation and a focus on the future. Employee surveys indicate progress in breaking down departmental silos, spreading out decision making and empowering employees.
One City program representatives on Tuesday shared examples of how using process improvement and performance metrics have resulted in improved employee engagement and high customer satisfaction.
More information is available in the council agenda materials.
