Residents’ development priorities to help shape Comprehensive Plan update as plan outreach continues

The City of Bellevue has released the results of its Comprehensive Plan 2044 survey, which provides insight into the community’s needs and desires for growth and livability in the city as it plans for growth over the next 20 years. The statistically valid survey was conducted by an outside research firm and used a unique approach to better understand what amenities, services and housing people want in their neighborhoods, and the relative importance of different development priorities.

The survey asked respondents to share their priorities as Bellevue plans for the future. Respondents at nearly all income levels prioritized providing homeownership opportunities for a variety of income levels. Preserving and enhancing the tree canopy, the ability to walk or roll to a meeting place without a vehicle, more locally accessible businesses and unique things to do were also top priorities. The survey also revealed a majority of residents support further development in Bellevue.

In an exercise designed to understand what features residents prioritize when considering their “ideal neighborhood,” survey respondents listed a mix of housing types and access to businesses and services as the most important factors in determining what makes an ideal neighborhood. Full survey results and a summary of high-level results are available at Bellevue 2044 Comprehensive Plan Engaging Bellevue page.

The city is committed to engaging the community throughout the planning process to ensure the updated Comprehensive Plan reflects the needs and desires of Bellevue residents. A virtual lunch and learn to discuss survey results will be on Wednesday, May 3, at noon. Registration is required to receive the meeting link.

The Comprehensive Plan 2044 survey received 1,152 responses from a random sample to achieve a representative view of public opinion, and the data was weighted to ensure it accurately represented the demographics of Bellevue residents across age, income, homeowner status and residence type.

Survey results will be used to inform Bellevue’s continued development of its Comprehensive Plan update, the city’s policy roadmap for growth over the next 20 years, and to guide decision-making around housing, transportation, parks, economic opportunities and more.
