On Wednesday, May 13, the Bellevue Police Department will recognize several officers and three citizens with awards at the department's annual awards ceremony. Four officers will receive the Commander's Award, four will receive the Life-Saving Award and the residents will be recognized with the Civilian Law Enforcement Merit Award.
Several department members will receive 25-, 30- and 35-year service recognitions. The awards ceremony will be in the council chambers of City Hall at 3 p.m., and is open to the public.
The City Council issued a proclamation Monday to recognize this week as National Police Week. The council recognized the sacrifices made by those in uniform across the country, and also recognized the men and women of the Bellevue Police Department for their role keeping Bellevue one of the safest cities in the region.
Representatives from the department are in Washington D.C. this week to represent the department at the May 15 ceremony for Peace Officer Memorial Day.
