Every year more artists and arts organizations from all cultures are bringing their art to Bellevue, thanks to funding support from the city. But to have a shot, they have to apply for it.
To apply for funding for 2014, obtain the appropriate form(s) on the city's Arts Program page, selecting either Eastside Arts Partnerships or Special Projects. Applications for either program are due at City Hall by Monday, Dec. 2, at 5 p.m., or may be emailed to mpbyrne@bellevuewa.gov. Details, instructions and application forms can also be obtained by contacting the arts program at 425-452-4105.
The Eastside Arts Partnerships program provides operating funds for arts organizations doing all or most of their programming in Bellevue. Organizations serving Bellevue and demonstrating excellence in artistic quality, management, fiscal strength and community connections are prime candidates for funding. These groups provide significant public benefit for Bellevue residents and support the goals of the Cultural Compass, the city's cultural plan.
The Special Projects program provides partial funding for projects taking place in Bellevue by artists or arts organizations from anywhere. Projects selected for this funding provide a clear public benefit to Bellevue residents, and support the goals of Cultural Compass. Additional criteria are listed in the guidelines. Projects taking place during 2014 are eligible.
Sometimes, the city's Arts Commission identifies an area of special interest and gives priority consideration to Special Project proposals serving that interest. For 2014, the Commission is continuing its effort to stimulate arts activity in the city's Bel-Red area. More information is included in the special projects guidelines. Applicants are encouraged to contact arts program staff to discuss their proposals.
The Bellevue Arts Program provides funding for arts organizations and artists working in Bellevue, manages Bellevue's public art program and oversees implementation of the Cultural Compass, among other duties. The Arts Commission, a seven-member volunteer advisory group appointed by city council, advises the Arts Program.
