Opportunity
The City of Bellevue is seeking to commission an artist to create a 2D artwork (digital or physical that can be translated to digital) that captures the essence of the city’s new Diversity Advantage Plan. This opportunity is open to visual artists residing in King County in Washington State. The selected artist will collaborate with the City to produce a work that celebrates the diversity of our community. The deadline for consideration is June 6 at midnight.

About the Call
Bellevue welcomes the world. Our diversity is our strength. Bellevue prides itself on its diverse community, recognizing it as a cornerstone of our strength. This call seeks to commission an artist to create works that embody the spirit of our Diversity Advantage Plan. The artist will produce a captivating 2D visual that vividly depicts the essence of our values, strategies, and commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. The artist will be expected to conduct community outreach to inform their design.
The work will be licensed from the artist for use (or the copyright will be transferred to the city) within the city to inspire and celebrate our diversity. Learn more about the Diversity Advantage Initiative.
Eligibility
This call is open to all active visual artists residing in King County in Washington state. In their applications, artists will be asked to describe their connection the Eastside and Bellevue and their connection to the theme of diversity and belonging.
Project Timeline*
- May 2024: Issue call for artists
- June 6: Call closes
- June: Panel review of applications and selection of artist
- August 7: First draft due
- August 21: Final drafts due

Application Deadline
June 6 at midnight. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted. If you are experiencing technical difficulties, please reach out before the deadline.
Application Requirements (to be submitted online)
- Artist application: Please fill out all required fields in the online application.
- Artist's statement of interest: Please summarize your background as an artist, why you are suited for this opportunity, and any relevant experiences or achievements. Please also include any experience with community outreach.
- Connection with Diversity Advantage Plan: Please describe how your art practice addresses some of the focus areas from the Diversity Advantage Plan.
- Please submit up to three examples of artwork demonstrating your ability to capture the essence of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

Selection Criteria
The artist will be selected based on the following criteria: application materials, artistic merit, experience with themes of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, and compelling work samples relevant to this project. The City of Bellevue reserves the right not to select any applicants.
