Volunteers and interns serve an important role in supporting the work of the City of Bellevue Probation Division. Volunteers are valuable mentors to our clients and essential assistants to our staff. We offer several different opportunities for community members to help support our mission.  Students volunteering with Bellevue Probation may earn academic credits. 

Minimum Requirements for Volunteers: 

  • 18 years of age or older.  
  • Attend an interview with the Volunteer Program Coordinator. 
  • Pass a criminal history background check. 
  • Abide by all policies and procedures. 
  • Provide excellent customer service in all interactions with clients in a professional and confidential manner.

Essential functions:

  • Conduct intakes for new referrals.
  • Evaluate applications for eligibility.
  • Verify employment and residential information.
  • Research case information.
  • Maintain records and files.
  • Correspond with other criminal justice agencies, treatment facilities, and service providers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired qualifications:

  • A “can do” attitude and a desire to assist others.
  • Desire for a hands-on volunteer activity.
  • Willingness to work under supervision while gradually assuming more responsibilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
  • Experience using computers, including programs such as Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

Essential functions:

  • Provide support for clients reintegrating back into the community.
  • Conduct one-time or ongoing meetings with clients to evaluate their needs and locate appropriate resources.
  • Contact agencies to coordinate connections.
  • Build collaborative relationships with community-based agencies.
  • Maintain and update resource lists.
  • Data entry: Compile data using Microsoft Office (Excel) and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Willingness to interview clients to understand their needs and locate services.
  • Work under supervision while gradually assuming more responsibilities.

Essential functions:

  • Assist Senior Office Assistant as needed at the front desk.
  • Assist accounting staff with reviewing financial documents as needed.
  • Create and manage accounting spreadsheets.
  • Schedule classes and appointments as needed.
  • Data entry and records management for all Probation programs.
  • Filing and organization.
  • Send out monthly statements as needed.
  • Other clerical duties as needed.

  • Willingness to work under supervision while gradually assuming more responsibilities with experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
  • Experience using computers, including programs such as Microsoft Office, Teams, and other internal software

  • Compassion and empathy when working with clientele.

Essential functions:

  • Schedule appointments.
  • Meet with participants to determine immediate and ongoing needs.
  • Contact third parties/resources to help find resolutions.
  • Provide correspondence to Courts and Department of Licensing as needed.
  • Maintain files and documentation.

  • Strong and clear communication skills.
  • Willingness to attend various Court hearings.
  • Experience using computers, including programs such as Microsoft Office/Teams and Zoom.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Basic understanding of the Criminal Justice System and Department of Licensing.
