Code compliance questions and concerns can vary widely. Additional topics and resources are available below. There are also questions and concerns that fall outside the regulatory responsibility of the city's Code Compliance team.
Other Common Code Compliance Concerns
Construction: Code Compliance responds to reports of unpermitted construction, electrical, plumbing and mechanical work and address safety concerns related to unstable structures.
Home-based businesses: Operating a business out of a residence may require a Home Occupation permit. Only low-impact home-based businesses that meet requirements can operate without a permit. Learn more on the Home Occupation Permits page.
Vehicles: Code Compliance reviews concerns about improperly stored vehicles, including those with damage, missing key components or flat tires.
Litter and nuisances: Overflowing waste carts, debris piles or discarded items, abandoned appliances and accumulations of junk materials on private property can be reported to Code Compliance.
RV storage and screening: Motorhomes, trailers and watercraft must meet required screening and setback standards when parked/stored on private property. Learn more about RV vehicle storage guidelines.
Sign code requirements: The city updated its sign code with new rules for permanent and temporary signs. The changes, found in the Bellevue City Code (BCC) Chapter 22.10, take effect starting on Feb. 1, 2027.
Tree removal and retention: The city’s land use code includes requirements for maintaining trees and replacing them when removal is allowed, helping ensure development and tree preservation stay in balance. In 2024, the city updated these standards to further support Bellevue’s long-term tree canopy goals. Learn more on our dedicated Trees webpage.
