The Parks Scheduling Office is committed to protecting our fields, particularly during periods of inclement or unpredictable weather. This page outlines the actions user groups should take when conditions affect scheduled field use and describes how field closures are determined.

List of Fields

Add/Update Field Reservations Spreadsheet

Determining playability

Step 1. If practicing or using a field without a dirt infield, skip to Step 2. If closed, the full field is off-limits for the day, unless staff announce that they will evaluate again later.

For games on fields with dirt infields, the field crew determines if the field needs to be closed.

  • When?
    • Weekdays: By 3 p.m. (or by 11 a.m. for spring high school games on the City of Bellevue fields.)
    • Weekends: By 7 a.m. (If needed, the Closure Line may be updated again at 11 a.m. for City of Bellevue fields or at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. for Marymoor fields. Refer to the List of Fields to confirm which field crew maintains the field reserved.)
  • How?
    • The Bellevue Parks Department field crew evaluates up to 12 dirt infields for playability. Some of the factors taken into consideration:
      • How much precipitation have the fields already received, and what is the upcoming weather forecast?
      • How much time has staff had to prepare fields before the game starts?
      • What is the temperament of the individual field? (Some fields dry faster or deal with water better than others.)
      • Is the scheduled use a special event or playoff game?

Step 2. If not closed by the crew, the user will review playability upon arrival and decide.

If the field has lights, please call and leave a message at the Field Lights number.

  • City of Bellevue 425-452-2864
  • Marymoor 206-225-8936

Note: If the group cancels due to weather and doesn’t call to cancel the lights, they will not get credit for the light fees. Credit for the light fees will be based on the date/time stamp of the message.

Reminder: The user group is responsible for any damage caused to a field by playing in questionable weather. This includes damage done trying to dry out a field, digging ditches, raking mud into the fencing, or applying a drying agent.

Weather-related adjustments

Predicted weather: Canceled field time based on predicted weather is treated as a cancellation. Refer to the cancellation policy for more information.

Actual weather:

  • Closed by field crew: Automatic credit for field and light fees will be applied.
  • Determined by user group: If the user group decides to not use the field due to poor weather, please submit a request for credit.
    • Light fee credit: Leave a message with our Field Lights number at 425-452-2864.
    • Field credit: Submit an Add/Update Field Reservations Spreadsheet by the first of the following month or within 5 days of the closure for end-of-the-month weather impacts.
