The Bellevue Fire Department believes that community risk reduction through education, engineering, economic incentives, enforcement, and emergency response is an important step to empower our community and spread public awareness about fire and life safety risks.
Our educators work with people of all ages to teach important fire and life safety topics such as home evacuation, emergency planning, wildfire mitigation, fall prevention, and much more. We also host ten open house events throughout the year where community members can learn about fire safety, emergency preparedness, CPR, and how to use a fire extinguisher.
Community Risk Assessment
In 2025 the Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Team evaluated the most common risks and hazards in Bellevue Fire’s service area. This analysis combined demographic information, emergency incident totals, and a natural hazard profile into a risk matrix. This risk matrix helps the CRR Team prioritize risks to mitigate.
Community Risk Reduction Plan
Using the community risk assessment, the CRR Team constructed a community risk reduction plan to outline how they are going to address the top risks in the greater Bellevue area. The current risks are preventable false alarms, which tie up emergency resources and cause people to ignore fire alarms instead of evacuating, and slips and falls in people 55+ years of age, which can greatly reduce independence in aging.
