To celebrate Earth Day, the City of Bellevue will host its second annual EarthFest Saturday, April 19, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Bellevue Botanical Garden. Festivities will include a host of family-friendly, interactive activities, such as observing live bugs up close and learning about the benefits of earthworms.
The event will feature games, tours of the garden and a children’s story time, along with other educational programs, creative arts and resource booths. Attendees will also be able to learn about the city’s Sustainable Bellevue Plan update and provide feedback.
“EarthFest is an opportunity for our community to join millions of people around the world in protecting and celebrating the planet,” said Jennifer Ewing, program manager for the city’s sustainability team. “With a wide range of activities all taking place at Bellevue’s amazing Botanical Garden, this event is a wonderful way for families to learn about and participate in Bellevue’s ongoing sustainability efforts.”
Attendees can also learn about Bellevue programs that help them to reduce environmental impacts, such as incentives for heat pumps through Energy Smart Eastside or sustainable commuting options through Choose Your Way Bellevue. Home energy efficiency workshops, a plant sale and much more will be available as well.
This event is free and open to the public. Food will be available for purchase at the Copper Kettle Coffee Bar inside the Garden. Advance registration is not required. All who live, work and play in Bellevue are welcome. In accordance with the spirit of Earth Day, attendees are encouraged to use sustainable transportation options such as bus, bicycle or BellHop.
The city’s sustainability team held the first EarthFest in 2024, with over 2,000 community members attending. For many years, Bellevue held an Arbor Day-Earth Day celebration in April, in which residents planted trees at parks. In 2022 the city switched to celebrating Arbor Day in the fall.
