Claims for Damages
If you feel you have been damaged by the negligent act(s) or omission(s) of the city or its employees, please contact the Risk Management Office (contact information in the right column) to discuss your concerns. We want to discuss these issues with you to assure you receive our personal attention and to direct you through the claim process established in Bellevue City Code 4.36.010 and Washington State RCW 4.96.020.
Bellevue’s Risk Management program goals are as follows:
- Safeguard the city’s property, financial assets and human resources from the adverse impact of loss
- To the extent to which the city is responsible, make whole in any expedient and fair manner, those who have suffered bodily and/or personal injury or property damage
- When the city is not responsible, vigorously resist payment related to bodily or personal injury or property damage
- Instill in each city employee an awareness and acceptance of his/her responsibility for creating a safe and healthy environment in which to work and live.
Risk management is a continuous step-by-step process of risk identification, measurement, minimization, assumption, transfer and loss adjustment, which is aimed at protection against accidental loss. Bellevue’s Risk Management Office, a division of the City Attorney’s Office, conducts these functions on behalf of the city. This critical work group identifies and attempts to reduce liabilities and risks that may have a significant impact on the city.
To file a claim for damages, download the claim form, complete and sign it, then send it to the City Clerk's Office at the address included in the form. Only completed and signed paper forms will be accepted. Forms submitted by e-mail, fax or other electronic means are not acceptable and will be rejected.
