Land Use Code Amendment
The East Link light rail line will extend six miles through Bellevue, crossing several land-use districts. The city code was not drafted with light rail in mind, so clear requirements and standards are lacking.
To clarify permitting for the project, the city is considering adding a light rail "overlay district" to Bellevue's land use code. The overlay district would have design and other standards specifically for light rail, and eliminate the need to make extensive changes throughout the land use code. The City Council is expected to take final action on the amendment in February.
The City Council held a public hearing on Feb. 11, in the City Council Conference Room in City Hall, on amending the Land Use Code for lgiht rail.
Notice of the hearing was provided by the City Clerk’s Office and in the Weekly Permit Bulletin. Any person may participate in the hearing by submitting written comments beforehand to the Council (via traditional mail addressed to: Myrna Basich, City Clerk, P.O. Box 90012, Bellevue, WA 98009, or the Director of the Development Services Department at the same address; by email to Myrna Basich or Catherine Drews or by submitting written comments or making oral comments to the council at the hearing.
