Commute Trip Reduction

In an effort to reduce congestion on highways and local streets, the state supports programs that lower the number of cars, particularly those with one occupant, on the roads during peak travel periods.

The City of Bellevue is required by the state to maintain a Commute Trip Reduction plan, which is focused on employers citywide with 100 or more full-time employees. By state and city law, (listed under the following Bellevue City Code: 14.40.080 Schedule and process for CTR program review, reports, and implementation) certain employers with 100 or more employees must provide Commute Trip Reduction programs. As of May 2010, there were 57 Bellevue worksites with 33,000 workers affected by this program, approximately 24 percent of all workers in the city. From 1993 to 2010, CTR-affected employers in Bellevue have lowered their overall single-occupancy vehicle rate from 75 percent to 64 percent. CTR employers downtown reduced their drive-alone rate from 68 percent to 56 percent, and those elsewhere in the city reduced their rate from 79 pecent to 68 percent.
