120th Avenue Northeast Widening Stages 2 and 3
120th Avenue Northeast will be widened to five lanes from just south of Northeast Eighth Street to south of Northeast 12th Street as part of Stage 2, and widened from Northeast 12th Street to Northup Way as part of Stage 3.
Stage 1, the widening of 120th Avenue between Northeast Fourth and Eighth streets, is a separate project because the timetable will be different than Stages 2 and 3, and because there will be differences in how the segments are funded. Widening 120th Avenue Northeast is intended to accommodate future growth and increase connectivity between downtown, the Bel-Red corridor and the Overlake area.
More about the project, including information on funding and environmental impacts, along with a map, is provided in the project description sheet.
Once completed, the Stage 2 and Stage 3 improvements are expected to provide congestion relief at key interections and enhance travel times for cars, transit, freight, pedestrians and bikes. Along with Stage 1, the projects will create a north-south arterial connecting downtown with planned improvements in the Bel-Red corridor. The project will also provide an important north-south extension of bike lanes, ultimately linking the area to the SR 520 regional trail.
