With minorities comprising more than 40 percent of its population, Bellevue is a melting pot all by itself. A group of women in the city making connections between the cultures of their native countries are celebrating Bellevue's diversity with a cookbook.

"The World in My Kitchen," created by the Cultural Conversations discussion group, features nearly 50 recipes from 16 countries around the world, including Somalia, India, China, Japan, Mexico and Russia. Contributors share family stories or cultural traditions with their recipes.

The books are $10 each, with half the proceeds going to Hopelink, a key Eastside social services provider.

Cultural Conversations, facilitated by the city's Neighborhood Outreach group, meets monthly for discussions that build cultural understanding and community connections. The group will have its annual ethnic potluck on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 12-2 p.m., Crossroads Community Center. Interested Bellevue women are welcome.

Since its launch in 2010, Cultural Conversations has involved more than 170 women. From cultural subject trainings to service projects, participants enjoy opportunities to learn, connect and grow in the community.
