City staff work to make Bellevue a good place for biking and walking. To report a situation that may endanger pedestrians or bicyclists, please call the Transportation Department's maintenance hotline at 425-452-7840. To recommend placement of a new bike rack, e-mail Kevin McDonald.
In 1999 the city updated the 1993 Pedestrian and Bicycle Transportation Plan
, which addresses current and planned facilities. The City of Bellevue offers the following resources and facilities:
- Bellevue Bike map
showing location of schools, parks and community facilities.
- Downtown Bellevue Bike Rack map
for safe, secure bike parking. Racks are available at the Bellevue Transit Center, as well as a large bathroom in the new rider services building where cyclists can change out of their riding clothes.
- More than 25 miles of bicycle lanes in the streets.
- More than 300 miles of sidewalks and 50 miles of recreational trails and paths though the city’s parks.
To Activate a Traffic Signal When on a Bike
You don't have to push a pedestrian button to get a traffic signal to change for you on your bike. Stop on the "X" mark to change the signal. If you encounter a signal that does not change for you, please e-mail Kevin McDonald with the Transportation Department when you get the chance.
Sidewalk maintenance
Residents are asked to maintain and help keep clear of obstructions the sidewalks in front of their properties. More information is available in Keeping It Neighborly
