City launches new volunteering guide

To make it easy for people to find the perfect volunteering opportunity on the Eastside, the City of Bellevue is launching a new, online guide. Available from the city's Volunteering page, the Bellevue Community Community Volunteering Guide lists hundreds of positions with local cities, churches, schools, nonprofits and other agencies.

The city has launched the guide, which will be updated regularly, this week -- National Volunteer Week. Links, organized by category, from "animals" to "tutoring," "environmental stewardship" to "recreation," make navigating around the guide particularly easy.

The theme for National Volunteer Week is "celebrating people in action," which honors the individuals who dedicate themselves to taking action and solving problems in their communities. Bellevue itself has nearly 6,000 volunteers who contribute to the community in more than 40 programs -- everything from coaching sports teams to performing complex mediations.
