To brighten the holidays for Bellevue families in need, residents are invited to donate toys at any of the city's nine fire stations from Saturday, Nov. 21, through Monday, Dec. 7.
The toys will go to children at the Crossroads Community Center's annual holiday party in December. Last year, more than 1,500 families turned to the center for help, and organizers say that number could be even higher this year.
The toy drive comes at a time when human service organizations throughout the Eastside report unprecedented demand for food and other and assistance from families impacted by the severe recession. Bellevue and other cities have made special efforts in recent months to team up with these organizations to meet these increased needs.
Residents are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys, books, games, gift certificates and sports equipment for young people of all ages to any Bellevue fire station.
Plush animals and gift certificates for parents are good for infants and toddlers; soccer balls, basketballs, arts and crafts kits, cars/trucks and dolls are good for children ages 3 to 12; and teens want gift certificates for clothing, restaurants, malls and music stores. Monetary donations will also be accepted (staff will shop for the gifts).
The fire station locations are listed here:
