The State Route 520 bridge and highway will close this weekend so workers can demolish the Evergreen Point Road overcrossing and complete other construction work.
The bridge, highway and ramps will be closed in both directions between Interstate 405 and Montlake Boulevard in Seattle from 11 p.m., Friday, to 5 a.m., Monday, except for the eastbound entrance from 108th Avenue N.E. Also, SR 520 will remain open between Montlake Boulevard and I-5.
Bellevue Way also will be closed between Northeast 32nd Place and Northup Way, from Friday at 11p.m. to Saturday at. 5 p.m. while contractors for the state Department of Transportation set girders.
Other work will include milling and replacing approximately 1,500 feet of asphalt pavement between Evergreen Point Road and just east of the 84th Avenue bridge. Nearby residents may hear the sounds of the pavement milling machine, pavers, trucks, backup alarms and light generators. This work is weather dependent and may be canceled in case of rain.
Thousands of vehicles travel across 520 on a typical weekend; drivers are advised to take alternate routes and plan for added travel time and delays. Carpools and transit are also suggested.
This work is part of the $306 million SR 520 Eastside Transit and HOV Project that will improve safety, access and reliability in the corridor when complete in 2013.
