The City of Bellevue is in the process of updating its Shoreline Master Program, policies and regulations that govern waterfront development in the city.
Bellevue's current SMP was drafted in 1974, following passage by the state of the Shoreline Management Act (SMA), and was intended to prevent the inherent harm resulting from "uncoordinated and piecemeal development of the state's shorelines." In 2003 the state revised its shoreline management guidelines to emphasize ecologically appropriate development. Bellevue is required to update its shoreline regulations accordingly.
On January 16, 2013 the City’s Planning Commission finalized its draft code amendment to the shoreline master program. The document will go to the City Council for approval prior to final adoption by the state Department of Ecology.
The Commission is preparing their transmittal and the final draft document for City Council review. When finished, the transmittal and draft SMP will be posted here.
