SE Newport Way Improvements
In response to resident requests, the city will make improvements to Southeast Newport Way, from 150th Avenue Southeast to Somerset Boulevard, adding a sidewalk, bike facilities and other features. The upgrades are intended to better connect schools, a library, churches and a community center. Improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists is a top priority.
Currently, there are no sidewalk or bike lanes along most of Newport Way, between 150th Avenue and Somerset Boulevard. People walking and biking must navigate narrow shoulders, making access difficult to destinations. Also, there are no crosswalks in this area, so it's hard to safely reach popular destinations such as churches, the community center and library, parks and schools. The planned improvements will make the roadway safer for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers.
