City-Hosted Law Enforcement Training

The fall 2015 community academy application period is closed.  The next community academy will be held in Spring of 2016.

The Community Academy is a 12-week program for Bellevue residents and those who work in Bellevue to become acquainted with how their police department operates. On completion of the academy, graduates will have gained a better understanding of the law enforcement role in the criminal justice system, and an appreciation for the many challenges facing law enforcement in today's complex society.

The Citizens' Academy is a primarily classroom based, and the lessons provide hands on learning about law enforcement. A few of the courses covered include Patrol Procedures, Firearms, 911 Communications, Narcotics, K-9, Major Crimes Investigations, Major Accident Investigations, Defensive Tactics, and Hostage Negotiations. To participate, you must be willing to commit to attend the three-hour sessions which will be every Thursday night from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. starting September 3 and ending November 19. Most classes will be held at the Bellevue Police Department and the academy is free of charge. If you're interested in attending, visit any of our community substations or city hall to apply, or APPLY ONLINE
