If you are a successful lateral applicant, you will start your career in our patrol division and be eligible to apply for specialty positions after just one year. 

The Bellevue police department is one of the fastest growing departments in the region, which means numerous opportunities for career development and job security for you. We are seeking lateral Officers from around the country with at least three years of experience as a full time sworn Police Officer.

Salary Range: $77,000 - $88,650 / Top Step (not including education incentive pay or premium pay)

The Bellevue Police Department accepts experienced lateral police officer applications continuously to maintain a list of qualified applicants to hire from. Lateral officers' prior experience may be recognized and factoring into a higher starting pay rate. Depending on prior service, it is possible to begin your career at our highest pay step after successful completion of the one year probationary period. Out of state police officers will also need to successfully pass the Washington State Criminal Justice Commission 80 hour Equivalency Academy

After submitting the required documents, the next step is an oral board interview. Based on the oral board interview scores, lateral applicants are placed on an Experienced Police Officer Civil Service eligibility list. Applicants who are ranked high on the civil service eligibility list will be selected to undergo a comprehensive pre-employment background investigation. Applicants who successfully pass the pre-employment background investigation may receive a conditional offer of employment. These applicants will then have to pass a full medical exam, a psychological evaluation, and a polygraph examination before employment.
