Police now accepting applications for Community Academy

The Bellevue Police Department is proud to announce it is now accepting applications for the 2014 Fall Community Academy.

The Community Academy is a twelve-week program for Bellevue residents and those who work in Bellevue to become acquainted with how their police department operates.

On completion of the academy, graduates will have gained a better understanding of the law enforcement role in the criminal justice system, and an appreciation for the many challenges facing law enforcement in today’s complex society.
The Citizens’ Academy is primarily classroom based, and the lessons provide hands on learning about law enforcement. A few of the courses covered include Patrol Procedures, Firearms, 911 Communications, Narcotics, K-9, Major Crimes Investigations, Major Accident Investigations, Defensive Tactics, and Hostage Negotiations.

Participants must be willing to commit to attend the three-hour sessions which will be every Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., starting September 3 and ending on November 26.

Most classes will be held at the Bellevue Police Department and are free of charge. If you’re interested in applying, email Sheila Evans at SEvans@bellevuewa.gov or visit a police substation or city hall.
