Neighbor Link

Neighbor Link brings neighbors and families together in a spirit of community service and celebration, encouraging and supporting neighborhood efforts that build healthy, lasting connections among neighbors. Interested residents should call Neighborhood Outreach to learn how they can get involved.

Established in 2009, the program began by engaging neighborhoods in community service projects (aimed at helping families suffering impacts of the recession). The result was more than 30 projects, including food and clothing drives, fund-raising events, neighborhood clean-ups and activities benefitting human-services programs.

Again in 2010, Bellevue neighborhoods collected several tons of food, school supplies, baby supplies and other items for families in need. The city offered assistance with planning and promotion, and enlisted community sponsors to help neighborhoods celebrate the success of their community service and community-building projects.

The third annual Neighbor Link Picnic was held Saturday, July 23, noon to 2 p.m., at Crossroads Community Park. It was an old-fashioned gathering, with hot dog lunches, including chips and drinks, for just a $1. Hundreds of residents enjoyed lunch, live music and games. Nearly $600 was raised for the Bellevue Human Services Fund and 1,000 diapers werecollected for Eastside Baby Corner.

Neighbor Link operates throughout the spring and summer, culminating in a communitywide celebration of Bellevue neighborhood achievements. Picnics in 2009 and 2010 drew more than 300 people to the City Hall lawn to enjoy music and lunch.
