What is the NMMTSC?
In March, 2008, the City of Irving along with the many Transportation Summit cohost cities, counties and transportation organizations, hosted the 1st Annual Transportation Convention in Washington, D.C. Already regarded as one of the premier multi-modal transportation policy conferences of its type in the country, the Annual Transportation Convention seeks the development of a comprehensive and sustainable national multi-modal transportation policy.
At this 1st Annual Transportation Convention, in response to a direct charge given to the group by U.S. Congressman John Oberstar, Chairman, Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure, and U.S. Congressman, John Mica, Ranking Member, Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure, the National Multi-Modal Transportation Steering Committee was created.
Bringing together diverse interests, including government agencies, private sector entities,
and trade associations, the Steering Committee provides a collaborative forum to advocate for responsible and long-term transportation policies. The efforts of the Steering Committee serve to provide Congress with additional information from a grassroots perspective as they move toward an entirely new surface transportation bill.
The NMMTSC fall meeting in Bellevue
To be competitive in this global economy will require leaders from all sectors of the economy working together with elected and appointed leaders to solve and plan for future transportation challenges. There is a consensus among transportation experts that the United States’ transportation infrastructure is in a state of crisis; it is vital that we continue the national transportation debate which will require an active commitment from both the public and private sectors.
The Northwest region of the country continues to lead the nation in innovative transportation solutions. The NMMTSC is excited to listen, learn, dialogue, and collaborate with the transportation leaders in the region. At the NMMTSC Fall Meeting in Bellevue, WA, we are bringing together various local, state, and federal officials and other key stakeholders from over 7 states and as far away as New York City to discuss the most pressing transportation issues that
Washington State faces today. Speakers at the meeting include Washington State Senator Mary Margaret Haugen, Chair, Senate Transportation Committee; Washington State Representative Judy Clibborn, Chair, House Transportation Committee; former Washington Secretary of State Ralph Munro; FTA Regional Administrator Richard Krochalis; 10 additional Washington State Legislators; and many others.
