Crews working for Puget Sound Energy will close sections of Main Street in the Old Bellevue section of downtown over a 10-day period, starting Monday, Aug. 20, while they install a new natural-gas pipeline.
PSE’s subcontractor, Pilchuck, will work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, and construction is expected to be complete by Aug. 30. The road will be open to traffic during non-work hours.
The closures will occur in the following phases:
- Phase 1: Main Street will be closed between 101st and 102nd avenues Northeast (101st and 102nd will remain open) for an estimated two days.
- Phase 2: Main Street will be closed between 101st and 103rd avenues Northeast (101st and 103rd will remain open) for an estimated four days. 102nd Avenue Northeast will be closed at Main Street, but the closure should not last the entire duration of this phase.
- Phase 3: Main Street’s eastbound lane will be closed between 100th and 101st avenues Northeast for an estimated four days. Traffic will be allowed only in the westbound direction.
PSE will replace an existing steel gas line with a new, more corrosion-resistant and larger pipe that can handle the increased capacity needed for a nearby 10-story condominium now under construction.
During the pipeline work, detour signs will be in place and flaggers will help direct traffic. For questions or concerns e-mail Heather Brickey, PSE’s municipal construction planner, or call her at 425-456-2848.
