Veterans: 'An expanding definition'

Bellevue attorney and Iraq War veteran Frank Selden says this Veterans Day we should honor everyone who served, not just those in uniform.

Selden shares what the day means to him as part of this month's "Lake to Lake" news show, available on the city's YouTube channel, at Bellevue TV and on channel 21.

"We had a lot of American civilians on our bases helping us do our job. Police officers, firefighters and school teachers, doctors and nurses," Selden says. "They, to me, are part of the American veteran community."

"Lake to Lake" is created and produced by city staff with help from Bellevue College students. This month's host is Officer Carla Iafrate, with the Bellevue Police Department.

Other "Lake to Lake" segments this month include:

  • Home safety tips to protect against burglaries;
  • Groundbreaking for a new transit-oriented development project;
  • Winter driving preparedness; and
  • New Zealand mud snails.
