Following a long tradition, Bellevue will celebrate Independence Day Wednesday in grand style, with the Symetra Family Fourth event at Downtown Park. The festivities begin at 6 p.m., with a long list of diversions including a food court, a climbing wall and live entertainment.
The Bellevue Philharmonic, a 65-piece orchestra directed by Fusao Kajima, will perform before and during the Eastside's largest fireworks display.
The fireworks will begin around 10 p.m. From 9:40 p.m. to approximately 11 p.m., Northeast Fourth Street will be closed between 100th Avenue Northeast and Bellevue Way, and 100th Avenue Northeast will be closed between Northeast First and Northeast Fifth streets. Access for emergency services vehicles will be provided as needed.
Due to their well-documented danger, fire crackers or other forms of fireworks are prohibited for private use in Bellevue and several neighboring communities. Details concerning fireworks regulations are available in a news release from the Bellevue Fire Department.
