Imagine you’re looking for a place to take your family for a picnic. The dog is barking, and you need to find a dog-friendly park with playground equipment for the kids fast.
Help is now just a few computer clicks away. The website http://myparksandrecreation.com, jointly sponsored by nine Eastside cities (Bellevue, Bothell, Issaquah, Kenmore, Kirkland, Mercer Island, Sammamish, Snoqualmie and Woodinville) now offers interactive park maps that will instantly display parks that meet a user’s specifications.
The interactive map feature is the latest innovation to come out of the eCityGov Alliance, a nationally recognized online service initiated in 2002 by Bellevue and a group of Eastside cities. The Alliance provides convenient, one-stop electronic shopping for municipal services and information, from permits to commercial property.
Search boxes and city links MyParksAndRecreation.com has offered people general information about parks throughout the Eastside area ever since it was introduced in 2002. Now, with interactive park maps, it’s significantly improved.
The website’s maps can now be used to search for any park in or near the nine cities. Helpful tools such as search boxes and links to area cities, or specific locations on the mapped cities, are designed to make it easier for users to narrow searches and find information.
The site can also be used to find recreation and activity information, and register for programs with direct links to individual cities. Additionally, the site features information about local trails, sports and recreation activities, entertainment, life-guarded beaches, community “pea patch” gardens, boat launches and more.
Future Plans Future plans for MyParksAndRecreation.com are to include trail search functionality and comprehensive information about special events later this year.
The Association of Washington Cities has recognized the eCityGov Alliance as an outstanding example of local government partnership.
