Council Roundup: East Link environmental work scrutinized

The City Council Monday scrutinized the latest environmental review of Sound Transit's East Link project, which will extend light rail from Seattle, across Lake Washington, through Bellevue, to the Overlake Transit Center in Redmond.

Sound Transit managers presented highlights from a supplemental draft environmental impact statement on East Link. The document evaluates alternatives developed since the original draft environmental review was released in December 2008.

Beginning Friday, Bellevue residents and others may comment on the SDEIS during a 60-day comment period (ending Jan. 10). Sound Transit has a copy of the environmental review, and information on how to comment on it.

Another opportunity to comment will come during a public hearing and open house, 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at City Hall. The public hearing portion of the event begins at 5 p.m.

A final environmental review is slated for completion in spring 2011 and Sound Transit's Board of Directors is expected to make its final preference known in summer 2011. East Link is scheduled to begin operating by 2021.
