The Bellevue Youth Theatre will present free performances from a dance troupe that specializes in traditional Indian dance at the Theatre at Meydenbauer on Friday, Aug. 13.
"From Within Nucleus" is a Seattle-based company that presents the South Indian dance form of "Bharatanatyam." The performances will be at noon and 4 p.m. After each dance performance, participants in the BYT’s day camp, ages 5-12, will perform "Puss in Boots."
No reservations are required for the hour-long events. Seating at the theater, at 11100 NE Sixth St., is first come, first served. For more information about the Bellevue Youth Theatre, call 425-452-7155 or e-mail byt@bellevuewa.gov
Subhashini Vijay Santhanam, who leads From Within Nucleus, says his troupe performs and teaches "to share the joy of this dance to get acceptance for the art form as common and accessible as ballet is today." The performance is funded by the Bellevue Arts Commission.
In “Puss in Boots,” a cat helps the youngest son of a miller find fame and fortune. Using his wit and help from his friends, Puss outsmarts the whole kingdom to get what he wants.
