A carport fire at a Bel-Red-area apartment complex this morning destroyed a carport and five cars inside it. Fire investigators from the Bellevue fire and police departments were still investigating the cause this afternoon.
At 7:48 a.m., a caller reported that at least one car was on fire at the Woodland & Foothill Commons Apartments, 13700 NE 10th Pl. Within minutes, other callers reported several cars on fire. By the time fire crews arrived at 7:55, the whole carport was in flames.
Fire crews from both Bellevue and Redmond worked to extinguish the fire. At one point, a burning car rolled away from the carport into a group of parked cars near one of the apartment buildings. Although it caught another car on fire, firefighters kept it from spreading to the apartments.
There were no injuries to firefighters or residents, and no dwellings were damaged in the fire. Initial property damages estimates are around $150,000.
