5.00.090     CRIMINAL CITATION

 

The issuance of a criminal citation is an arrest.  Whenever practical the criminal citation should be used in lieu of physical arrest.  Prior to issuing a criminal citation the suspect must meet the following criteria:

 

v       The arrest is for a Gross Misdemeanor or Misdemeanor offense

 

v       The suspect provides sufficient personal information and identification

 

v       The suspect poses no threat to himself or others

 

v       The suspect agrees to sign the criminal citation
