The City Council Monday appointed new members to fill vacancies on the Planning and Transportation commissions.
After debating the process used to make the appointment, councilmembers voted 5-2 to appoint Aaron Laing to the Planning Commission. Councilmembers Balducci and Chelminiak voted against the appointment.
Laing fills the remaining term of former Commissioner Daniel Himebaugh, who moved out of the city. Laing will be eligible for reappointment when the term ends on May 31, 2012. A land-use attorney, Laing recently ran for the Position 1 seat on the city council and was narrowly defeated by current Councilmember John Stokes.
Also, the council unanimously approved the appointment of Vic Bishop to fill a vacancy on the Transportation Commission. Bishop will serve the remaining term, which also concludes on May 31, 2012, and will be eligible for reappointment.
