NWMaps.net, already a convenient place to find zoning information about properties throughout 12 King County cities, now offers other data too, including school, utility service and voting district.
The eCityGov Alliance, representing Bellevue, Bothell, Issaquah, Kenmore, Kirkland, Mercer Island, Renton, Sammamish, Shoreline, Snoqualmie, Tukwila and Woodinville, recently launched NWMaps.net, an interactive mapping tool that provides property and community data. Information supplied includes the location of active building permits, for rent/lease commercial property, local landmarks, public facilities, schools, environmental areas, parks, trails, as well as zoning and King County tax assessor information.
NWMaps leverages and integrates data from several eCityGov portals, including NWProperty.net, MyBuildingPermits.com and MyParksAndRecreation.com.
The Alliance redesigned NWMaps to create a one-stop mapping and information portal that allows users to quickly retrieve information and maps through a theme-based interface. For example, if a homeowner wants to establish a home-based business, he/she can enter an address and select the Zoning and Property theme to quickly retrieve and access data and information relating to the parcel.
The system goes beyond reporting on zoning and permits, traditional uses of GIS technology. Residents will be able to use the system to determine their utility service districts, school district, voting district and census data for their community.
"It provides a lot more information than our first version," says Darci Donovan, a permit center manager with Sammamish.
