In an effort to measure background radiation levels around Washington, the state Department of Health will have a low-flying helicopter gathering radiological readings this summer, starting this week around Puget Sound.
The helicopter will fly a grid pattern at an altitude of about 300 feet in Seattle and Bellevue before moving to other areas of King and Pierce counties. The helicopter will make daily flights between July 11 and 28.
The state Department of Health offers complete details about the aerial radiological survey. The agency also issued a news release.
