A fire Thursday afternoon in Eastgate severely damaged a large two-story house, but no one was injured.
One of the home's three residents discovered a cloud of black smoke coming from back wall of the house, on the 16300 block of Southeast 40th Street. When firefighters from Bellevue and Eastside Fire and Rescue arrived, the basement and carport were engulfed in flames.
Firefighters put out the fire at 12:50 p.m., but the carport was destroyed and the house partially collapsed. All three residents were displaced and the American Red Cross offered assistance.
Eastside Fire and Rescue was still investigating the cause of the fire Friday (Eastgate is in unincorporated King County).
