Master Naturalist Training Program

Days: Fridays	Hours: 9:00am-3:00pm
Training: February 8 – May 3, 2013	Job site: Lewis Creek Visitor Center
Length of commitment: At least 5 hours per month up to 100 hours of service after training is completed. 100 hours not to exceed 2-year period.	Reports to: Park Ranger
Work environment: Outdoors/Indoors	State Patrol check required: Yearly
Age: Must be 18 or older

Applications must be submitted or postmarked by January 11th, 2013.

Primary Responsibilities:
Master Naturalists will learn about the area’s ecology, geology, wildlife, plant life, cultural history, wetlands, forests, and streams from professors, local professionals, scientists, research assistants, and Park Rangers. Master Naturalists will focus on restoration and conservation efforts, and will help share this passion with residents.
Drawing on individual strengths and interests, Master Naturalists may perform the following duties:
• Lead environmental education programs, hikes and canoe tours
• Help lead Stewardship Saturday volunteer projects
• Maintain restoration sites and monitor species survival at former restoration sites
• Assist with Natural Resource special events, Arbor Day Earth Day and Natural Resource Week

Training Details:
In this 13-week training program, volunteers will meet with experts in lecture, workshop and field-trip settings to cover various ecological topics. Program is free with a volunteer commitment of 100 hours of service to Bellevue’s natural resources. For more information, please call 425.452.4195 or e-mail Parks_Stewardship@Bellevuewa.gov.

Desired Qualifications:
• City of Bellevue resident
• Understanding or interest in botany, horticulture, native plants, resource management, noxious weeds, restoration ecology or wildlife habitats.
• Desire to work outdoors in varied weather and site conditions.
• Experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance.
• Experience in interpretation and environmental education.
• Experience in volunteering and working as a team.
