Chelminiak continues recovery from bear attack

SEATTLE -- Council member John Chelminiak, who was mauled by a bear Friday, was moved out of the intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center Tuesday, and his condition continues to improve, his family reported.

However, he still needs time to rest, so the family is requesting  no visitors or phone calls at this time. Comments to the Council member's Facebook page are appreciated.

Doctors over the weekend treated Chelminiak for multiple wounds to his upper body.

"I want to thank the many, many people who have been in contact the past few days concerned about John's condition and offering to help any way they could," the council  member's wife, Lynn Semler, said Monday. "It has truly been a huge comfort during this terrible ordeal."
