FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, April 4, 2007

Improvements underway on NE 24th Street

To allow for construction of median islands, Northeast 24th Street will be closed between 124th and 130th avenues Northeast from March 26 to April 16. The main detour route will be Northup Way.

The four median islands represent the first phase of a project that will make 24th Street more bike- and pedestrian-friendly. Additional construction in the area will include completing sidewalks, paving the roadway and installing lane markings, signage and landscaping.

Construction of the medians will begin at 7 a.m., on Monday, March 26, and wind up at 5 p.m. on Monday, April 16. The city’s contractor is exploring ways to perform at least some of the other planned improvements while the street is closed for the median construction.
