Drivers traveling east on State Route 520 this weekend should expect delays, while the state Department of Transportation paves the approaches to the 130th Avenue Northeast overpass in Bellevue.
Just one eastbound lane will be open on the highway at 130th Avenue from 11 p.m. Friday, March 13, until 5 a.m. Monday, March 16. To avoid congestion, drivers can also go east on Northup Way, Bel-Red Road or Northeast Eighth Street, or plan to make trips outside of peak travel hours.
WSDOT planners say they need drivers’ help to avoid heavy backups during the closures. On a typical weekend day, more than 3,200 vehicles per hour travel this stretch of eastbound SR 520. With just one lane open to traffic, only about 1,400 vehicles per hour can get through.
Even if 60 percent of vehicles take other routes, drivers may still see delays of more than 40 minutes through the work zone between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
WSDOT has more information.
